Four Museums in Downtown Franklin

The Hidden Gem RV Park is located just a short walk from four museums in the downtown area. The Scottish Tartans Museum & Heritage Center showcases Franklin's Scottish Heritage. The Gem & Mineral Museum, housed in Franklin's historic old jail, is a fascinating place to learn more about the gems and minerals of the "Gem Capital of the World." Ruby City Gems offers a free museum that houses one of the largest collections of gems, minerals, Native American, and pre-Columbian collections in the world. And you can learn all about Franklin's history and heritage at the Macon County Historical Society & Museum.

 

Women's History Trail Franklin NC

This project is the first of its kind in the State of North Carolina. The trailhead for the Women's History Trail is off East Main Street and features an amazing sculpture by reknowned artist, Wesley Wofford. From there you can drive to the many locations along the trail and discover the stories of the women that helped shape Franklin and Macon County's history.

Running through Downtown Franklin, the Little Tennessee River Greenway trail winds for approximately five miles through Franklin. The Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts is just a short drive from the Hidden Gem RV Park. This 1,500 seat facility features concerts, comedy, children's shows, etc., all year long. It is also home to the Overlook Theatre Company that produces musicals, plays and other performances throughout the year.

Throughout the year you'll find plenty to do in Franklin, NC. The Gazebo on the Square is just up the hill from Hidden Gem RV Park. Here, in the center of town, you can take in free music at "Pickin' on the Square" the second and fourth Saturdays from mid-May until mid-October. The downtown area is also home to some of WNC's finest festivals including PumpkinFest featuring the World Famous Pumpkin Roll! In season, there is also a Farmer's Market with locally grown goodies in the lower level parking lot at Franklin Town Hall.
